About the Work
On the occasion of her first solo exhibition with the gallery, ON THE WAY TO PENGLAI ISLAND, König Editions has produced a new limited-edition print on fine art paper by Xiyao Wang. The edition, NO ONE KNOWS WHEN WE WILL ARRIVE, revisits the motif of one of Xiyao’s large-format paintings in her current show, capturing the same degree of contrast and lyrical abstraction that are on display at the gallery. The title of the work is taken from a short poem that the artist composed to summon a journey to this mythical island, which has featured prominently in the lore of Chinese literature. The directness and movement captured in the edition return the gaze to the actions of the Berlin-based painter, who uses a combination of physical exertion and formal restraint to achieve her works.
